Matt Sheehan is assistant to the dean for Web strategies working part-time at the Merrill College. He also works as a new media consultant and serves as chief operating officer at a new media company. He was an assistant news editor at The Washington Post, and holds an M.B.A. from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at Maryland.
An alumnus of the Merrill College, he served as editor of The Diamondback and was a Scripps Howard Top 10 scholar. From 2005 to mid-2009 he served as the school's communication director, facilitated special projects and coordinated special events. He worked to develop the college's 10-year strategic plan.
While at Merrill, Sheehan has worked closely with the dean and faculty to further work multimedia and multi-platform journalism skills throughout the curriculum. He has worked with multiple faculty members to develop interactive and online outlets for student work.
Sheehan is also a former adjunct professor in visual journalism at Merrill. He has taught graphics and news design to students at the college, high school and post-graduate level, including as an instructor for the American Society of Newspaper Editors High School Journalism Institute, the Maryland-District of Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Washington Post’s Young Journalist Development Program.
