"PICK" IN ACTION
This story on illiteracy in America from ABCnews.com illustrates only a few of the PICK concepts - especially contiguity - in an "efficient" multimedia story.
Note the various type of media used plus their sizes and placements in relation to the text. Also note the amount of text and how the various media "weave" with the text. The PICK formula suggests that video sound bites be less than ten seconds and NOT be duplicated in the text. (In the original version of this story, the video clip is longer than seven minutes.)
